House of Angostura, also known as Angostura Limited, was founded in 1830 in the Venezuelan city of Angostura (now Ciudad Bolívar) by the German doctor Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert, Surgeon General in the army. In 1820, he sought to develop a remedy to improve soldiers’ appetite and digestive well-being.
The company is also a distiller and the leading producer of rum in Trinidad and Tobago. It operates distilleries in the United States, Canada, the Bahamas, and Suriname.
