Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc
Cloudy Bay winery was established in 1985 by David Hohnen, the founder of Margaret River winery Cape Mentelle. After experiencing an early example of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, David knew there was a bright future for the variety. Travelling through NZ and researching the regions with assistance from locals, the Jacksons Road, Marlborough location was confidently selected. The original winery, estate vineyards and The Shack were developed shortly thereafter. Cloudy Bay was amongst the first five wineries to be established in the Marlborough region. Cloudy Bay was named after the bay to the eastern extremity of Marlborough. At the time of Captain Cook’s discovery, Marlborough was in flood and the rivers running into the bay were full of silt creating cloudy water. The Richmond Ranges meet Cloudy Bay and border the Wairau Valley where the winery and vineyards were established. These ranges were the inspiration behind Cloudy Bay’s label and contribute to the picturesque views from Cloudy Bay’s cellar door & winery. Cloudy Bay helped put New Zealand on the global wine map, with their fresh approach to winemaking earning them international prestige. Their continued commitment to quality, above all else, retains Cloudy Bay as a respected premium wine producer. The Marlborough region enjoys a relatively cool and moderate maritime climate year round, producing one of the world's most refined and expressive Sauvignon Blanc wines. Pinot Noir is now also earning international acclaim. Cloudy Bay’s Sauvignon Blanc expresses the essence of Marlborough’s unique terroir, infused with notes of fresh melon, passion fruit, pineapple and citrus. Cloudy Bay strives to preserve the vibrant natural purity and fruit of the Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The Cloudy Bay range includes Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, the brand's iconic Te Koko Sauvignon Blanc, and Pelorus, an exceptionally elegant sparkling wine. Small amounts of Pinot Gris, Riesling and late harvest Riesling are also available internationally. Additionally, Cellar Door has a few exclusive offerings for visitors to enjoy. Cloudy Bay is part of the Estates & Wines collection.
